About the book :
We Were Liars is a modern, sophisticated suspense novel from National Book Award finalist and Printz Award honoree E. Lockhart. Published in May 13, 2014
We Were Liars is a haunting portrayal of a group of teenagers who have formed a sacred bond; each one striving to be free and longing for acceptance. They consider love more important than social and economic stature, and are displeased with the prejudices surrounding their world.
They are young.
They are passionate.
They are imperfect.
They each suffer their own personal injustice. And this is their story.
About the author :
E. LOCKHART is the author of four books about Ruby Oliver: The Boyfriend List, The Boy Book, The Treasure Map of Boys, and Real Live Boyfriends. She also wrote Fly on the Wall, Dramarama, and How to Be Bad (the last with Sarah Mlynowski and Lauren Myracle). Her novel The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks was a Michael L. Printz Award Honor Book, a finalist for the National Book Award, and winner of a Cybils Award for Best Young Adult Novel.
REVIEW :
We were liars is the kind of books that you need about a week after reading it to analyze what just happened. I have to say before starting this review that if you haven’t read the book yet, go into this novel with absolutely NO expectations, and do NOT spoil yourself. If you have already read it, do NOT tell its secrets, and if anyone asks you how it ends, just LIE.
The first half of the story is very slow, it starts with Cadence (the main character) going back to her grandfather's island in Massachusetts, after spending the summer away with her father in Europe.
Somewhere along the lines things will start to heat up and you will become intrigued with the story because it becomes this strange, wild thing that you can't piece together. You will start questioning everything and then BOOM, out of nowhere IT will be revealed, all the secrets, all the lies and it will leave you speechless.
Lockhart uses a very odd narration with fragmented sentences and strange descriptions, so when it comes to the writing it may not suit everyone’s taste, you will either love it or hate it.
