AYLP
A Life Changing Experience
What is AYLP ?
Algeria Youth Leadership Program is once in a lifetime opportunity for Algerian teenagers
(15-18) to spend a full month in the United States
of America. It’s more than just an exchange program
but a golden key for a journey of self improvement
and a bridge to interact with other teenagers from
different regions and backgrounds.
Words from a previous participant :
Getting
to travel abroad for the first time without your family, spending a month in a
foreign country you once dreamed of visiting, and staying at a stranger’s
house, all sounded to me intimidating, exciting, and surreal at the same time,
but once i met my fellow participants, my host family and the chaperons every
doubt i had, was nothing but a shadow and before i could know it, we were
already having a blast learning from each other, working together and
interacting with one another.
The plane took off from Algiers after a week of workshops and ice breaking activities, and here we were on our way to the most enlightening, transformative and challenging travel experience.Landing in D.C followed by the biggest little city in the world, Reno, we got to meet our host families who opened their houses for us and took us in as one of their owns,we did stimulating activities which gave us everyday something new to think about. Lake Tahoe the magical place where we had our dinner by the lake as we watched the fireworks goes up, celebrating another year of USA’s independence and got to spend time with professor Todd Felts who taught us to show and not to tell when proving a point.San Francisco my favorite out of them all, part of it reminded me of Algiers and another screamed Oran, but what caught my attention the most was how open minded and joyful the citizens of SF were.
From
the people we met, the activities we took part of, to the places we’ve been to,
it all left us with nothing but inspiration and an urge to make a change, AYLP
is indeed a LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCE.

about myself such as flexibility, this program had helped me to respect people

Never in my life have I had the opportunities I’ve been
given in this program: to learn, to explore, to travel outside the boundaries
set up around tourism, to experience actual life beyond my home. What a
wonderful program!
